How we are run

Fowey Pre-School is a registered charity, run by an elected committee of volunteers according to the Pre-school Learning Alliance constitution. The committee, together with the staff, is responsible for the adoption and reviewing of policies, which govern our practise.

We are registered with Cornwall County Council and operate funding for three and four year olds and some two year olds. The rest of our income comes from fees and fundraising events.

Our regulator is Ofsted, by whom we are regularly inspected ( copies available on requset). Their address is: Ofsted Early Years, Piccadilly Gate, Store Street, Manchester M1 2WD / 0300 123 1231 enquiries@ofsted.gov.uk Link to view report here: www.ofsted.gov.uk/inspection-reports/find-inspection-report/provider/CARE/102809

Involvement of Parents/Carers

We welcome the involvement of parents/carers in the setting, whether as a valued member of the management committee or on a more personal level. We see our parents as partners when providing care and education for the children, finding their sharing of information invaluable. To this end we encourage regular exchanges between the child's key person and parents/carers. When your child first starts at the setting, your child’s key person will help him/her to settle and will work with you to provide for your child’s progression throughout his/her time at the setting.

If you want to ‘stay and play’ anytime, just see a member of staff to arrange this. We’re sure both you and your child would get a lot of enjoyment from this.

Early Years Pupil Premium (E.Y.P.P.)

This is an initiative by the government to address the issue of disadvantaged children being less ready for school than their peers. Applied for by parents, it amounts to an extra 53p per child per hour for eligible three and four year olds, and is paid directly to the setting. This funding may be used in a number of ways to help improve the learning outcomes of the child.

If you receive various benefits or meet certain criteria you may be eligible.  When completing the parent declaration funding form, you just need to enter your date of birth and national insurance number. More detail can be found on the Cornwall Family Information website:  www.cornwallfisdirectory.org.uk

Record Keeping:

The setting keeps a record of achievement for each child. In order to document their progress, the children are observed frequently and photographs, or on occasion videos, will be used to validate the observations. Your child's key person will work with you to keep this record, so that the child's achievements can be enjoyed together.

Snacks and Meals:

Snacks and meals are social times, where we all come together to enjoy healthy and nutritious food in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. If your child stays for lunch, then please send a prepared packed lunch, clearly marked with the child’s name. This will be stored in the fridge until lunchtime. We discourage contents such as crisps, sweet products and sweet drinks, and would suggest a healthy sandwich, and a fruit and milk based dessert. If you need advice on what to provide for your child, please speak to a member of staff.

Please click on Healthy Lunchbox to download a copy of suggestions for your child's packed lunch.

Health:

Please ensure the setting is well aware of any medical condition or allergy your child may have. Please do not bring your child to pre-school for 48 hours after an episode of sickness/diarrhoea, or if they have impetigo or other contagious problem.

In general please use common sense when deciding whether or not your child is too ill to attend.  Ask yourself the following questions:

- Is my child well enough to do the activities of the pre-school day? If not, keep your child at home.

- Does my child have a condition that could be passed on to other children or pre-school staff?  If so, keep your child at home.

- Would I take a day off work if I had this condition?  If so, keep your child at home.
